The World Health Organization suspended all medical evacuations from Gaza on April 7, 2026, after Israeli forces shot and killed WHO contractor Majdi Aslan while he drove a clearly identified WHO vehicle on Salah al-Din Road in Khan Younis. With more than 18,000 patients — including 4,000 children and thousands of cancer and renal failure cases — awaiting evacuation through the Rafah crossing, the suspension threatens to compound a medical crisis in which over 1,200 patients have already died waiting for care unavailable inside the Strip.
