This Privacy Policy explains how Crowdbyte ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website at crowdbyte.ai (the "Service").

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account information: When you sign up, we collect your email address, username, and optionally your display name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google.
  • Profile information: Bio and reading preferences (preferred article length, tone, complexity, and custom instructions).
  • User content: Prompts, article suggestions, community notes, comments, and feedback you submit.
  • Payment information: When you subscribe, payment details are collected and processed directly by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status but never your card number.
  • API keys: If you provide your own OpenRouter API key for AI model access, we store it encrypted.

Information collected automatically

  • Analytics: We use Vercel Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data such as page views and performance metrics. This does not use cookies and does not track individual users across sites.
  • Authentication tokens: We use session tokens (stored as HTTP-only cookies) to keep you signed in. These are strictly functional and not used for tracking.

2. How we use your information

  • Provide the Service: Authenticate you, display your profile, generate personalized articles, process subscriptions, and deliver email digests.
  • Improve the Service: Understand usage patterns through aggregated analytics to improve features and performance.
  • Communicate with you: Send transactional emails (password resets, subscription confirmations) and, if you opt in, a daily news digest. You can unsubscribe from the digest at any time.
  • Enforce our terms: Prevent abuse, fraud, and violations of our Terms of Service.

3. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the following categories of service providers, solely to operate the Service:

The following information is publicly visible on the Service: your username, display name, profile picture, bio, and any content you contribute (prompts, community notes, comments). Your email address is never displayed publicly.

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law. Aggregated, anonymized data may be retained indefinitely. Contributions to articles (prompts, revisions, community notes) remain part of the article history after account deletion but are disassociated from your identity.

  • Access and update: You can view and edit your profile information from your account settings.
  • Delete your account: Contact us at cory@crowdbyte.ai to request account deletion.
  • Unsubscribe from emails: Every digest email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also manage email preferences from your profile.
  • Data export: Contact us to request a copy of your data.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and secure authentication tokens. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. International users

The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the US, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
