All six crew members aboard a U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft were confirmed dead after the plane crashed in western Iraq on March 12 during Operation Epic Fury, the U.S.-led military campaign against Iran. The crash, which the Pentagon says was not caused by hostile or friendly fire, brings the total number of American service members killed since the war began on February 28 to 13, with approximately 140 more wounded in a conflict that has sent oil prices above $100 per barrel and destabilized the entire Middle East.
