Immigration judge Kyra Lilien has sued the Department of Justice, alleging she was fired from the Concord Immigration Court because of her gender, age, and registration as a Democrat — joining a growing wave of lawsuits from more than 100 judges terminated since January 2025. The firings, which have reduced the immigration bench from roughly 700 to around 600 judges, have intensified a court backlog already exceeding 3 million cases while raising constitutional questions about whether the executive branch can strip civil service protections from federal adjudicators.
