A new investigation by the Conflict Insights Group used commercially available phone tracking data to trace the movements of more than 50 Colombian mercenaries operating as the "Desert Wolves" battalion alongside Sudan's Rapid Support Forces, mapping a recruitment pipeline that runs from Colombia through UAE military bases to the battlefields of Darfur. The findings have prompted two rounds of US sanctions against Colombian nationals and shell companies brokering the contracts, while raising questions about UAE complicity at the highest levels of government — and the international community's failure to halt the flow of foreign fighters into a war that has killed over 150,000 people and displaced 14 million.
