India's five largest IT services firms — TCS, Infosys, HCLTech, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra — ended FY26 with a combined net workforce reduction of 7,389 employees, reversing the previous year's net addition of 12,718. But the headline figure masks a far more uneven reality: TCS alone shed 23,460 jobs while spending ₹1,388 crore on restructuring, even as Wipro and HCLTech added thousands — raising questions about whether the sector is undergoing a rational post-pandemic correction or an AI-driven structural contraction that will permanently alter the labor-intensive outsourcing model.
