Three large randomized trials within the COSMOS study found that a daily multivitamin-mineral supplement (Centrum Silver, costing roughly $0.11 per day) slowed cognitive aging by the equivalent of two years in adults over 60, with statistically significant benefits for global cognition and episodic memory. However, the effect sizes are modest, the research was partly funded by supplement manufacturers Mars and Pfizer, no independent replication exists outside COSMOS, and prior supplement trials for brain health — including ginkgo biloba, vitamin E, and omega-3s — have consistently failed in larger studies.
