A newly described species of crocodile-line archosaur, Sonselasuchus cedrus, found in Arizona's Petrified Forest National Park, appears to have transitioned from four-legged to bipedal locomotion as it matured — a developmental pattern virtually unknown among reptiles. The discovery, based on over 950 fossils representing at least 36 individuals, deepens our understanding of convergent evolution between crocodile-line and dinosaur-line archosaurs during the Late Triassic, roughly 215 million years ago.
