Eileen Wang, the mayor of Arcadia, California, resigned on May 11, 2026, after federal prosecutors revealed she had agreed to plead guilty to acting as an unregistered agent of the People's Republic of China. From late 2020 through 2022, Wang and a co-conspirator ran a website called U.S. News Center that published content directed by Chinese government officials, including material defending Beijing's Xinjiang policies, while presenting itself as an independent Chinese American news outlet.
