Ukraine's war has become the world's first large-scale testing ground for drone and robot combat, with unmanned systems now causing an estimated 80% of military casualties and Ukraine producing 4.5 million drones annually. But while ground robots are capturing positions and FPV drones have supplanted artillery as the primary killer, electronic warfare countermeasures, supply chain vulnerabilities, and the inability of machines to hold territory complicate the narrative that autonomous weapons represent an unambiguous military revolution.
